With both magazines like W and V and mega-agencies such as IMG and Ford scouting talent through Instagram and Twitter, social media model searches are proving to be more than just a passing trend in the casting world. On Monday, Love magazine — one of the first fashion publications to warmly embrace the new generation of “Instagirls” — announced that it’s getting in on the action with a model search of its own, led by Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand, as well as Kendall Jenner, who will shoot the contest winner for an upcoming cover.
“We’re looking for this generation’s next icon — kinda like me, but, like, a little less good,” Jenner jokes in a promo video on the Love website. All interested applicants (ages 15-35) need to do in order to be considered is post a picture on social media using the hashtag #LOVEME17, along with a short bio that gives Grand and Jenner a general sense of what they, you know, love. “You can literally be a flea wrangler or you could catch lobsters and stuff, it doesn’t matter. We just wanna know you,” Jenner says.
Twenty finalists will be flown out to Los Angeles in November to be photographed by Jenner and interviewed for Love‘s February issue. No word yet on whether you’ll get to mingle with momager Kris Jenner or get a guided tour through Calabasas while in town, but either way, this sounds like a damn good opportunity.
